Screen display extremely dim
Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop - The screen comes on for about 20 or 30 seconds; then dims to a point where it appears black. Any thoughts on what could cause this? The display is 15.4WXGA, 0-2BD, True Life Latitude Cpt.

I don't believe the problem is the toggle. When I plug in an external monitor, both monitors display for 20-30 seconds and then the internal monitor dims to near black. If I unplug the external monitor the internal monitor becomes bright for 20-30 seconds and then it dims to near black again. When I restart the laptop the internal display is bright again for 20-30 seconds and then dims to near black.

What does it do when you plug it into an external monitor. FN F8 toggles between the LCD and the Monitor.

If you plug an external monitor and you have dim video on both then you have a problem with your graphics card.
If you have dim video on the LCD and can view the display on the external monitor then you have a problem with the LCD or inverter.
