Screen flashes when I open lid

Question

When I open the lid on my Inspiron 9300 with the computer running, the screen will appear for a couple seconds, then go black, then appear again for a couple seconds. It keeps doing this for about 30 seconds, then the screen finally stays on and everything is normal. To my knowledge, nothing has been installed and no settings have been changed since it last worked normally. The computer runs fine during this interval, with programs running normally and all, and the only difference is that the screen flickers on and off every few seconds.

Any ideas?

I think its a normal process. it happens to mine too, basically you are waking up the monitor if it was off , and it takes a second for it to load back up again

Yes, it has always flashed for a few seconds ever since I bought it, but now it is flashing on and off for about 45 seconds.

However, I was able to fix it by using system restore. I restored to the day before I installed iTunes 5, and that fixed it. I'm not sure if it was a faulty install or what happened.
