Screen turns yellow

I'm trying to narrow down an issue with my screen (XPS M1530).

It's probably the cable going from the base to the screen.

While working the screen turns slightly yellow. By moving the screen a bit it goes away. Some positions seems to be more prone to "yellowing". The computer is almost 4 years old and so far not a single issue.

The fact that moving the screen fixes it makes me think the cable is about to give way after thousand of open/close. But I also know that this machine was part of the defective Nvidia cards batch of late 2008 and the warranty was extended becasue of this (but I'm now passed the extension).

So... could this be a symptom of the card, or is the cable is the likely culprit?

if it's the cable, coudl I do the job myslef if I get a spare part?

Hi zicher,

Welcome to the community.

This sounds like an issue with the LCD screen or the cable as the display will change if you move the LCD screen. Thus in this case I’ll suggest to replace/check the LCD cable as this will be the least expansive option that you can try.

This is how you can reseat/replace  the cable:

http://dell.to/KyKjv2

you can order the LCD cable from Dell Sales, You can contact Dell Spare part Sales department at 1-800-372-3355 to buy the parts.

Please revert  if you need any further assistance. Glad to help you.

Thanks. As I suspected the most probable cause is definetly the cable. I ordered a new one.

Rob, any chance you can provide us with an update?  ...I'm having the same problem and wondering if that worked for you.

(I have an Inspiron N7110 ~1 year old that started doing that within a few months, and finally is yellow all the time)

Thanks

I think this a problem with the LCD Cable. Very minimal chance of Graphics card failure.  www.readenews.com/.../try-out-mozillas-mobile-operating.html

Hi,

yes, that worked. I got the cable from Dell (used/refurbished one apparently, but cheap), replaced in about 30 minutes, and after that, everything back to normal.

The XPS screen is a bit of a challenge to open and has some sticky tape that messes things up, but it came off at the end with only one tiny piece of plastic breaking that doesn't affect look or functionality once the screen was put back.

Hopefully your inspiron is easier to open.
