Section Sign

Heya. Sorry I may be putting this in the wrong place but I've been looking for three days for an answer now and I've come up with nothing. I've got a Dell Inspiron 1545 and I need to produce the section sign §. That's the section sign and as is evident I can copy/paste it. But I need to actually perform the keystrokes to produce the section sign in order to access a console in a piece of software. I've tried a multitude of ways including things like altgr+shift+s, alt+21, alt+0167 and other such combinations. Is it even possible to create the section sign using this particular laptop? If not, it's fine at least I'll know, but if it is, anyone have any idea how it might be done?

On my D400 laptop Fn+F4 to enable Num Lk

Then, Fn+Alt+0167

The 0167 are the blue numbers associated with the M, J, O, 7 keys and not the number keys at the top of the keyboard

I appreciate your response mate. But it doesn't work. The 1545 does not have any blue numbers, it does not have a numlock, it does not have a hidden numpad. Or well, if it does, none of the above is the way to access it. If I press fn+f4 it means I access f4. If I just press f4 it means I access the light controls. All combinations I've tried I've also tried with the fn key. If the section key can be accessed it's not through any combination of 21, 0167 or S. Whether that's with only the alt key, only the fn key or shift key or any combination of those keys. If there is a numpad on the 1545 it's so well hidden there's no sign or mention of it. I've had laptops in the past where the numpad have been built into and accessed by the fn key, like you describe, but this is not one of those computers. Hence why I'm posting here, I'm a bit lost.

Cheers for that last response, was typing the above as it came in! So I'll try that and see what happens, thanks.

The 1545 has no such thing. It does not have a num lock, it does not have any hidden numpad. As I said, I already tried the above combination.

Yeah, I've already done that. Had I not done so I would have accessed light controls by just pressing F4, but now when I press F4 it accesses F4. To access other things I have to use the FN key, just the way I want it.

I've managed to set something up for this microsoft keyboard layout creator, but can't seem to get my finished keyboard layout to load in windows. But at least I'm on my way.

If you want to have the Functions keys act like normal, you change the setting in the BIOS. This won't help you with your problem, but it can set the keys to the way you are used to with other keyboards.
