No, I can't say as I have ever seen this but I can tell you it can take Dell 5 - 10 days to update the service tag info in there system after a system is shipped. You might wait another day or so and see what happens. Lots of people who bought systems with the free Win 7 upgrade ran into the tag not being updated.
Every interacction with Dell Support online or on the phone is screened by the service tag.
It appears I have been had. My PC is a lemon and I cannot get service for my PC because Dell does not recognize the service tag that is stamped to the bottom and which appears in the Dell Support center application on the laptop.
Since it is obvious from reading this forum that Dell knows this model had issues before they shipped it, I have to wonder if the problem with the service tag is an 'accident'.
After calling Dell support (and it was hard to find the phone number without a valid service tag) my issues with the service tag are unresolved.
Did you purchase that system through the Dell Outlet or did you purchase it brand new? It's entirely possible that it came from Canada is you purchased it from the Outlet.
If your service tag isn't being recognized you should be able to contact Customer Care and have them look into the matter for you. You can find contact information on our support site, http://support.Dell.com. The US phone number is 1-800-624-9897. All you will need to know to speak with them is your order number. From there they can arrange to have your service tag "attached" to your order.
You may also want to fill out the Unresolved Issues form for help as well.
Ok. The Dell support website will now recognize my service tag. I do not know the difference between the 'Dell Outlet' and the "SHOP" button I see above. I purchased the laptop new, I think, using the Dell online store. I configured it myself and waited about a month before it was shipped.
When I called I provided customer number and order number but it took a while to convince them that I had a legitimate issue with the service tag and I was not trying to defraud them with an invalid service tag.
It makes no sense to me why the service tag on a 'brand new custom built' laptop would not be recognized the day I recieved it. Especially with the clock running on my warranty.
If I get a good number of years service out of this machine with no hardware issues I will be happy. It does bother me that the CPU vent is blocked by the LED screen when it is open - Who allowed that to happen? Airflow from the vent is blocked by over 50% with the lid open by my area measurements and the lower left of the screen gets quite warm. Why not modify the top to allow full airflow from the vent away from the screen? Also because of this the fan runs on high speed quite a bit and is very loud.
Enough with the gripes. The sound is very good and the display is fantastic.
i get this exact same message when typing in my m14x's service tag, however, when i use it on system configuration instead of chat it says to use a valid tag or not recognized....

I will never buy another Dell product.
