Setting Icon/Font/Taskbar sizes back to default?

I just got an Inspiron 9300 laptop and apparently Dell seems to think that EVERYBODY is blind because all the icons, fonts and the task bar are HUGE!!!

Well Dell, thanks for looking out for me, but I am NOT BLIND and I don't need everything on the screen to be so huge that it almost defeats the purpose of getting a large, high res screen.

Now how do I get everything back to normal? Normal being Windows XP's "default" sizes for everything... NOT Dell's default sizes!

And yes, I am slightly annoyed... I'm annoyed not because everything is so huge but because I wasn't given the CHOICE if I wanted everything huge or not!

Oh and here's another question for the all mighty people at Dell, if you think I'm TOO STUPID to have a CHOICE then why are you selling me a computer? Maybe you should give everyone an IQ test over the phone before any sale is completed.

Which resolution screen did you buy? If you bought the low-end WXGA, the icons will be large by default, because the resolution is relatively low for the size of the screen.

1440 x 900 wide screen.

I've worked with Windows (XP, 2000, NT, ME, 98 & 95) for many many years... I know what's default and what's not. I'm so used to Windows XP's default sizes that the first thing I noticed when I started this laptop was everything was huge and out of proportion. I hate it! I want everything back to normal. I've tried using the Appearance (advanced) tab in display properties and I do have the icons set to normal but the fonts keep reverting back to what ever Dell has them set at. And I don't even know where to start to get the Taskbar back to normal size.

I also can't figure out how they did it but they made it so Internet Explorer is expanding all the web pages... to the point where images look distorted.

I want Dell to explain to me how to get EVERYTHING back to normal or I will seriously consider sending this laptop back!

What is your DPI setting (under General on the Displays tab)?
