Stuck during system backup & recovery

While running a system scan my virus software needed to reboot, windows was then unable to startup so went into startup repair. Startup repair was unable to fix the issue, so I did a system repair and that was unsuccessful. I selected another restore point and yet another, none worked I then started the backup and recovery process, chose files, check Backed up, check. Formatting your partition, check. Now we have been stuck in "reinstalling your selected system backup..." for four hours now and still at 1% It states not to cancel or turn off during the process in order to maintain the integrity of the system Any suggestions? Inspiron. Running Windows 7

Press F12 at powerup and load the Dell diagnostics -- run an extended hard drive test.

It's not going to complete - test the hard drive.

So stop the recovery?  Btw, still @ 1% after about 16 hours :(

So far everything is a pass. Checking the memory now

Update- ran diagnostics and everything passed. Restarted and wouldn't startup. Ran startup repair with no luck ... System restore had no restore points. Tried recovery again and it worked, however everything is gone.  All data, all docs, programs, etc

Thanks for help,
