Stuck, trailing pixels?

I purchased (financed) an Inspiron 9400 back in September '06 to help see me through college. Everything was good at first - no complaints - but recently I've been having some serious issues with my LCD display.

As of late, random 'stuck' pixels (aqua blue, dark blue, and red) will appear, often on dark/black backgrounds, images, and so on. When the image, etc. is moved, often a trail of similarly 'stuck' pixels will follow. Although these stuck pixels can be cleared by refreshing the page or reloading the image, it is often a matter of seconds before the pesky little dots reappear.

A couple of examples:

(Example of 'trailing pixels' leaving a pattern after I move the window around.)

(Example of a column of 'stuck' pixels appearing after I scroll down.)

I've seen a few other individuals suffering from the same issue, but have yet to find a resolution. Most of the individuals I have spoken to have declared it a hardware problem.

Personally, I'm at a loss. I still have three more years to go to pay this thing off, and I am really hoping my 3 year extended warranty will cover this.

Yes, the warranty will cover it - call Dell and they will replace whichever is faulty - the screen or the video card/mainboard.

To differentiate the two, does the same problem occur on an external monitor?

Yes. When I hooked up the laptop to my desktop's widescreen NEC display, the pixels showed up on that as well.

Your video card (or mainboard, if you have Intel graphics) is faulty, not the display panel.

I'm having the exact same problem (XPS 410) listed in this thread and found it during a search. I have the pixel trailing issue, and weird stuck pixels even on the POST screen with the DELL logo splash. I've tried 2 different monitors, swapped out the system RAM, and even the video card. My first thought was yes, it was the video ram or overheating on the 7900GS PCI-E card. So, I pop that card out, put in one I pulled out of another machine that was working fine....expecting that to fix the problem. Nope...same issue. So, long story short, same symptoms as the original poster... but I've swapped out monitors, memory, and tried a known good video card...same issue. Any suggestions?
