There are several ways to create a bootable Win7 USB stick and some of them might not work properly. The easiest way to create a bootable Win7 -USB stick is to use the original Microsoft Win7-USB-Creator.

You may have to create an iso-file first (from your original Dell Win7-CD)

I should have clarified that the bootable USB stick was created using Microsoft's tool and suggested method, as stated in the link you've provided.  Also, I have used the USB stick on another computer and verified that it does work, as I can boot from the USB stick.

Why the Dell Studio 1535 cannot see the USB is my main concern?  Can you boot from a USB from a Dell Studio 1535? Is the motherboard on it capable of doing that?

You are obviously not the only one with that problem:

(reply to these posts and ask if they ever found a way to solve their problem)

I have no experience with your model but I can tell you that my almost 2 year old inspiron boots perfectly from USB.

You might try a BIOS update (don't blame me the system is dead afterwards) or take a different approach to  boot from USB by following tutorials on this webpage:
