Studio 1555 Processor upgrade query.
Hello all,
My Studio 1555 currently has its original Intel core 2 duo p7450 @ 2.13GHz processor. My question is can I safely replace this with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 3.06 GHz Processor? I'm worried that there may be compatibility issues with the motherboard/Bios and overheating.
Another question is if there is a better processor than the T9900 that I could use?
My Plan is to change the Processor, upgrade the ram from 6 to 8 Gig and swap the hard drive for an ssd.
Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

The T9900 consumes 10W more power than the CPU you have -- even if you can get the system to recognize one, it's just about sure to cause instability due to overheating. Processor upgrades on notebooks rarely make economic sense - anything you can safely use just won't produce enough of a boost to justify the cost.
The SSD upgrade makes sense - so might the RAM, though the speed boost you get will be just about nil for the added 2G.
Also bear in mind that a faster CPU may just shift the system bottleneck to a part you cannot upgrade -- the video chip.

Hi Rajesh,
Thanks for your response. If I do upgrade the processor I think I will use the T9900. Another respondent to my question suggests that I will run into overheating problems if I do upgrade the processor. I thought It would be OK to use the T9900 because I think that the T9900 was offered as an option on the Studio 1555 when I first got it.
I'm now not sure if I should take the risk of my laptop overheating if I upgrade.
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply to my question.
Cheers, Boggins

Hi EJN63,
I realise that the cost implications of upgrading the processor may not make sense. But I was looking forward to ripping my laptop apart to see if I can do this! Your advice has given me pause for thought. I think the T9900 was offered as an option on the Studio 1555, because of this I thought that it would be able to handle the extra wattage.
Now I'm not sure whether to take the chance or not.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my query.
Cheers, Boggins.

Hi Boggins,
Upgrading parts is completely up on users discretion.
As said by users , you might also face compatibility issues and Over heating issues.
