From your description, I would guess the antenna wire(s) may have come loose. To check this CLICK HERE.
If you can run an ipconfig /all and post it back here, I can see if there may be a setting in the adapter, also.

Hey Rick,
Your are a real champ, I followed your suggested link to open my lappy and to look for any possible loosed wire problem and found the same. Fixed that, and see I am replying you with the same machine using my WiFi connection...
