Studio 1558 Won't Eject CD
I insert a CD and my laptop doesn't recognize that a CD has been inserted. So far as I know, the Studio 1558 doesn't have a secret button to push to eject. There is no external sliding carrier on this model, just a slot. The CD seems to be spinning, but it's an unnatural sound compared to when it functions properly,
It won't eject using either the D Drive eject button, even iTunes "eject disk" just doesn't work. I have had to shut down and restart- and after goofing around with this process eventually an eject command works. I have worked with Dell chat and they figured it was a registry problem, cleaned that up, and it worked just then. Now the problem is back. This problem is intermittent.
Also, when I start up iTunes it says there's a registry problem. I have uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled iTunes, (including the whole Apple menu of programs) several times. The popup persists...
I don't know if these two things are related, but they are certainly two problems related to cd playing

That firmware update doesn't solve the problem. 9 times out of 10, when I have a disk in the drive, I can't eject it unless I reboot... and sometimes even rebooting doesn't solve the problem. I tried uninstalling the drive, intending to allow it to reinstall... but the uninstall locked up and wouldn't complete.
This is a VERY poorly designed drive. It really should have a mechanical means of ejecting the disk, since ejecting by software doesn't work. At the very least, Dell should replace these drives on all computers, including those no longer under warranty.
