Studio XPS Desktop 7100
I was getting a 4-beep code on startup and the fan would go on high speed. I tried it several times now no more beeps codes and the power module is blue, not amber.
It appears that is now sleeping. Nothing seems to wake it up, I tried F2 and all the other ones as well. I have a cordless keyboard & mouse, should I hook up an old style corded one?
I can not even get to the start-up screen but i did manage to get Dell screen up once that said erroe code (00)
What shall I do?

Hello,
According to the setup guide for the Studio XPS 7100, four beeps signifies a read or write error with the RAM. (See page 29 of that guide I linked for the beep codes). The RAM is the memory chips in that system. Depending on whether you have one or more memory chips in that system you may want to try removing them one at a time and seeing if the system will start up without one in particular. That will help you narrow down which chip it may be.
Here is a link to the service manual for the Studio XPS 7100. You can review that document to see what is involved in working on your desktop. If you have never worked on a computer before then I highly recommend reading the Safety and "Before you begin" sections before doing any work. It might be better, in the long run, to have an experienced tech work on the system for you.
When you're doing that, if you have multiple chips or if you have just one, try the memory chips in the different memory slots on the motherboard.
The good news is, if it is just a faulty memory chip, those are relatively cheap and easy to replace. If it is the memory slot on the motherboard, that gets to be a bit more difficult to deal with, but if the other memory slots are working fine you can simply get a larger memory chip to fit into the working slots and carry on.
I hope this helps. Please let us know what you find out with those memory chips and if needed we'll see what else we can find that might be of help to you.
