Support for Inspiron 17R
After owning a couple of used dell laptops, both were good machines, I decided to take the plunge and buy myself a new Dell 17R N7110.So i was none-to-happy when after 3 months (eminent hd failure) popped up on the screen, and a few more times until it died just after warranty expired and so its been collecting dust for a couple of years till i got over it.ok sorry for the ramble, I just ordered a 1tb firecuda and i can install it (more $} so how do i go about getting the drivers and os back on the bare hd?

Assuming the purchased drive fits into your machine, check here - http://dell.to/1Rd3bvj - if the OS is available for your system based on the service tag. If yes, then you could download and install the OS.
Download the required drivers here - http://dell.to/2r1lxwW - for the specific OS in concern.
If the image is not available, then you would need to install the OS using a copy of a retail media or you could order the media here - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

Hi HERCHELRAND,
What application did you use to create the recovery image on the USB? Was it Windows or Dell Backup and Recovery Manager or some 3rd party tool?
You would need to use the same application and restore the image on the new 1TB drive.
If it was Dell, you could download the restore utility here. It will be available based on the tag.
If it was Windows, refer this link.

ok trying my 17r running again , here's what i have to work with , the 1tb firecuda is in replacing the 750 gig WD. i also have a system repair disk that contains 3files : boot, sources, and bootmgr, and a usb flash drive disk recovery that has a folder Backup set ( 7 zip files ) and catalogs . both were made just before hd failed in march 2014. What else is needed and could some one walk me thru this?
