System Memory Failure
My dell was working fine till yesterday (Dell Latitude Cpi) and today morning it did not work, when I ran the system Diagnostics , it says System Memory Failure on Memory Address Line Test.
What is the problem and how can I correct it. I cannot lose the data on computer. The Recovery disk I have is for Windows 98 and I have windows 2000 on the computer.
Please help.
Regards
Sanjay

Either your physical memory (memory chip) is bad or needs reseated. First, remove all power from the laptop, ac and battery. Then turn the laptop over. The memory is located on the bottom of the laptop, accessible through a small access door. Pry up on one end of the door while pushing on the other, and the door will slide off. How many memory chips are installed 1 or 2? Heres what you want to do. Use one chip at a time and try each slot. This will isolate whether it is the memory chip itself or the slot / connector on the system board.
You should not lose any data with a memory error. If you need to purchase memory, you could call Dell used part and they will set you up with the style of memory you need. Memory is fairly cheap these days. Good Luck!
