TARGUS AMW0501 Notebook Wireless Rechargeable Optical Mouse Problem

Running a Dell XPS M1710 with 2Ghz CPUs, 4Gb RAM, Nvidia 7950 and 250Gb HDD, dual booting Vista Ultimate 32bit and Windows XP Professional SP2.

I bought a Targus Notebook Wireless Rechargeable Optical Mouse (model AMW0501) with my system a few months ago and it's been working fine, with no issues, in both Vista and XP.

Now all of a sudden, the mouse has stopped responding in both Vista and XP. The device is connected to the USB port, the HID-compliant mouse is showing up in the hardware list, the receiver USB dongle flashes it's light when i move the mouse to indicate it's receiving a signal, but the pointer doesn't move on the screen.

I've tried restarting, reconnecting, re-installing, and all of that on a completely different machine as well and STILL NOTHING!?

Can anybody help me?

Hi Nick...

I know rechargeable batteries can go bad.
Have you tried some different batteries?

I also purchased a Targus rechargeable mouse for my laptop. The instructions advised that I charge the mouse for 8 hours before use. I charged it for a total of 16 hours using the usb cable and in exactly 8 minutes it started acting up. Mouse hangs, slow response. I replaced the rechargeable batteries with some new ones and got the same results. The mouse worked perfectly with the usb cale hooked up. I returned the mouse and got another and the same thing happened. I then removed the rechargeable batteries and installed some regular AAA batteries and have been using the mouse without problems for several weeks now. Although the mouse does have a sleep feature that works very well, I do turn it off at night when not in use. I contacted Targus about this and as you might expect did not get this resolved. I have researched rechargeable batteries for mouse products and they all seem to have this problem. Hope this helps.
