Touchpad and Hot Keys Issue
I have a Dell Inspiron 14 7447, and there are a couple of niggly issues that have been bothering me since I bought the machine.
First of all, the touchpad fails to respond after I put the laptop to sleep. Rebooting is the only way to make it work again.
Also, there is a very strange problem with the mute hotkey. Trying to unmute or mute the system for the first time after a cold boot will cause the hotkey to register twice, i.e. when unmuting the windows unmute notification will pop up put then quickly flash to mute again. If I press this more than once it works perfectly fine, of course until I shut down the laptop and turn it on again.
Strangely enough, the issue doesn't arise if I choose to press the mute/unmute hotkey after a restart (not a shut down and power up). I've tried reformatting and reinstalling but nothing can solve the problem.
Any solutions to either of these problems>

Hi,
For the touchpad issue, Go into Device Manager>Touchpad properties and disable option to turn off device to save power.
Check if it still is unresponsive after you do this.
If so, uninstall the touchpad driver, restart system and Install the latest version from the Support Site.
In regards to the Mute key, once the Operating system is reinstalled, update the Quickset drivers and check if you're still facing the same concerns. Write back with an update once you try this.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can't find and option to turn off device to save power under devmgmt. I've tried reinstalling and updating, but the issue still persists. Same with the Quickset.
I updated my bios as well with the latest one, and this created another problem. Now I can't even wake my laptop up from sleep; the keyboard lights up and the fans spin but the system just powers itself off a few seconds later.

To De-select the option to Turn off device,go to Dev Manager, Right click on Touchpad device>Properties>Power Management.
If there is no power management option seen, then it is set to the proper setting already. In that case, run a complete Windows update and also use link www.intel.com/.../detect to install all the latest Intel Drivers.
For the other issue, please login to the Support website and install the Graphic drivers for the system.Let me know if the system still fails to start up after sleep.Does this happen with/without charger plugged in?

There is no power management option available. I downloaded the intel update utility and it updated the wifi card driver and the intergrated HD graphics driver. This unfortunately made things worse. I can't even send the laptop to sleep now, the keyboard light remains on and the fans keep spinning, but the display is off and the only way I can get the system running again is to hold down the power button and switch off. This happens regardless of the charger being plugged in or not.

I have already had the parts replaced for the aforementioned issues. None of my issues were fixed. I initially had annoying speaker pop/crackle, along with hinges that made cracking noises when opened, as well as the two (now three) issues that I mentioned before. The technician came in and attempted to fix them, but was unsuccessful. The audio crackle was fixed purely by myself, by installing generic audio drivers.
At this point, I think it would make more sense to just get the laptop replaced. There are too many problems with it to be fixed and they have persisted since I got the machine. I have tolerated the issues because they started off quite minor, but the condition has deteriorated rapidly.
Also, I happen to be a uni student, so time taken to service the machine really affects my ability to get work done. I think it would just be easier and would save more time for both me and Dell to get a system replacement.
