Touchpad cursor doesn't always respond

Have a brand new (one week old) Inspiron N5030 Laptop.

The touchpad cursor/pointer does not always respond to positioning... for example, when working in an e mail or word document I use the touchpad to move the  cursor to a different line or word, but when I click on the place I want it to go to, the cursor doesn't move from where it currently is to the position I am clicking on.  I have to use the arrow keys or enter or other time consuming and majorly-annoying ways to move it from the place it is to any other place in the document and ONLY THEN I can position the cursor where I like.

It doens't happen every single time - but enough to make it very, very annoying.
I've checked the driver, which it says is ok and up to date.
I've tried adjusting the settings on the device.
My palm is not inadverdantly resting on the touchpad.

Any suggestions that a non-geek can try before I ship this thing back?

Did you get an answer?  I've got the same problem--and it's getting very tiring.  Would love to know if you've gotten any input  or solutions.  Thanks!

No, I didn't get any answers.  Dell Cust. Supp. had me reinstall the driver and bios - it helps for a short while but never really fixes the problem.  I just keep reinstalling the same driver....  Dell wants me to send in my laptop to fix - but this will take several weeks and all my files will be deleted!  I don't have time for that!  I'd like to find another driver but am a little leery of that.  If you find something, please post it here.

Very annoying!!  I have the same problem here with touchpad.  Cannot find a fix.  Would also love to find a way to disable the 'other language" keys on the they keyboard...they are just a nuisance.  Rather disappointed in this purchase.

Ladysox, after installing the same driver over and over without success, I finally gave up.  Now I use a conventional mouse and life is much less frustrating!  Good luck!

Same touchpad problem here.  Dell hasn't found a fix yet?  It is very frustrating to use,  and slows me down a lot because I have to keep checking if the cursor actually moved where I told it to go.
