On your system model there are three Quick launch buttons on the right hand top of the keyboard.Among the three buttons, starting from the left, first button is the Dell Instant Launch Button, second Preset Audio Mode Launch Button and third Windows Mobility Center Launch Button.Only the Dell Instant Launch Button is user programmable. It means you can apply a application which you want to launch using that button. The other two buttons cannot be customized.
However this button can only be used to launch programs/applicatiion.This can be done through Windows Mobility Center. But I am not sure if somehow you can use this button to turn off display.
Thanks a lot for the hint. I finally managed to do it using a tiny external program. Its a freeware app found in the following page.

As you suggested, I used the Instant Launch button to run the program, it turns the display off. A single mouse/keyboard activity turns the display on again. I saw some other users asking for similar features. I think it may help others as well. Even if there is no Instant Launch button, a shortcut of the program placed on desktop/quick launch can be used to do the trick.

The utility seems not to be working on a Precision M4700 ...
Isn't there any other way to quickly turn off the internal display without putting the computer into sleep mode ?
