Turning on the Input Monitor Slider

Had my E1505 a few months.  With some good forum help, I got the Input Monitor Slider to appear on the Volume Control panel.  I can even mute it.  However the slider is still greyed out and inoperable.

Just wondering if anyone has discovered how to turn it on?

I've also seen something about some new Soundblaster software that's become available.  Does it offer a different Volume Control panel where an Input Monitor works?

If so is it available after the purchase of a computer?  Or is any other software available that would give me Input Monitor control?

Thanx, Bill

This is a known issue with Inspirons.  The SigmaTel audio drivers do not allow the microphone input to be available in the playback mixer.  There is a "registry hack" posted on the forum.  Search for "SigmaTel", "regedit", and "microphone".

I don't think thats what they are referring to.  After the registry hack sometimes the slider works after it appears in the mixer and sometimes its grey and will only let you turn on and off live playback with the mute button but wont actually slide.  I have experienced this myself.  Does anyone know what causes the bar to sometimes be slideable and sometimes not?  I have done the registry hack a couple of times and sometimes it will slide and sometimes not (very anoying when its too loud and you have headphones on).

mikers...

Thanks so much for your messages.  Been too busy to deal with them till today.

You're right on target for my issue.  I've done the registry hacks and got the input monitor to appear and I can turn it off on and with the mute, but the slider doesn't work.

I downloaded the file you sent me to and extracted it, but the destination for the extraction is still in the temporary internet files.  Most zipped files I've dealt with before have the right destination built in, so extracting them sends them where they need to be.

So since it's worked for you, where should I place the extracted file to get the slider to work?

Thanks for your help.  Getting it to work will save me an ongoing hassle as I have to produce a CD weekly with real time input from several sources.

I have an e1705 so I am not sure if it will work for you, but shouldn't be any harm in giving it a try...

1. download the dell driver and let it extract to default path (or just remember where you put it if you changed default)

2. then unzip the file you downloaded for the fix and extract to desktop

3. look at the name of the name of the file you extracted to dekstop then find the same file name in the dell folders the driver from dell made

4. copy and paste the file from the desktop into the dell directory that has the file with the same name, when it asks if you want to replace say yes

5. uninstall the audio driver through device manager then re-install it from the dell files

Thats as much as i can tell you, if you need more specific help other than following the directions you'll need to ask an e1505 owner.

Peace,
Mike

Mike,

In step one, what is the dell driver I'm to download and where can I find it?

Thanks, Bill
