USB Devices Preventing Shut Down
Hello!
Is anyone experiencing this and does any one know a solution?:
I have an external USB audio interface and a USB midi controller I use to make music.
When powering down, if I don't unplug either of these devices, my Laptop goes into an eternal state of "Shutting Down" but never actually does. If I unplug the devices before shutting down, it's fine BUT once it enters this state (if I forget to unplug before shutting down) even if I unplug the devices it requires a 4 second power button shutdown.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Check the advanced settings under the device manager for the USB hubs. Make sure that they're enabled to shutdown when the computer shuts down. The option is "Allow system to shutdown device to save power". For some reason thats disabled on the hubs with Windows Vista.

With XP, I used to be able to simply disable the on board soundcard in the device manager and it would automatically re route the audio to my USB audio interface.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks again in advance!
