USB Root problem

Dear all,

i've got a problem with a brand new Inspiron 8600.  In the device manager of XP Pro there is a USB device marked with a "!". Win XP says that there a no drivers available for this device. This must be something with the chipset or usb-root. I tried to remove all drivers for the whole usb-tree within the device manager as mentioned in other threads but no improvement of the situation.

Does anybody has the same problem so far ?

Pleassse help me,

Thanks in forward

Have you gotten the Service Pack installed?? It fixes an issue with the USB 2.0 ports.

Just to clarify what viper 11885 said, the service pack that he is referring to is Windows XP SP1.  If you do not, then go to Windows Update and grab that update and any other critical update just to protect yourself.

Thank you for your help,

but I've just installed all updates available. But, the problem is still there.

What can I do ?

Try to uninstall the device (device manager -> right click on the faulty device -> uninstall) then reboot.
WinXP should redetect it and install appropriate drivers.

Strange ...
Did you install the chipset inf update ?
If not, give it a try :

I did,

but no change at the device manager.

Is there a way to delete all Chipset drivers and repeat the procedure ?

Thankx
