USERS NEED New ATI Mobility Radeon 9800 drivers,
Is It me or is dell really lacking on support and follow through for some of thier older systems. My Dell Inspirion XPS gen 1 still runs great but alot of programs are requiring me to upgrade my video drivers to work but Dell has not updated a single driver for it since 2005. There are new drivers by ATI but will not work on the Dell laptops for some reason. Is There any way for customers to get ahold of dell without being charged for it to tell them they need to make drivers? Is pretty messed up when alot of us spent 4K or more on fully custom machines for them not to keep supporting them. Anyone know a solution around this problem?

Were the new drivers from ATi (the latest are ATI Catalyst Mobility 8.7 drivers) downloaded from the link to "bypass the validation process"? ("click here")
If they were, what was the error message?
Was it something like..? "Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware"... according to this post ("click here"), ATi forgot to add support for some Mobility models in the INF.
I have the "ATI WinXP Catalyst Mobility 8.5 drivers" and I could upload it for you to download, if you want...
Or if you prefer to download the drivers from a known source... you could also modify a "Desktop 8.7 driver" with the "DriverHeaven Mobility Modder".
Sometimes, a clean install of the driver helps when problems occur during driver installation. DELL-Chris_M has instructions for this ("click here").
I use "Driver Cleaner Professional 1.5" (This was the last free Driver Cleaner version and is no longer updated ("click here"), for WinXP. The latest "Driver Cleaner" has a fee ("click here").
Aloha,
