Universal notebook adapter. The AC power adapter type cannot be determined...
Because I forgot to bring the AC power adapter with the laptop I decided to buy a new Conceptronic Universal notebook travel adapter, 90W, compatible with Dell laptops. My laptop model is a Studio 1558 (less than one year old) but when I plug the adaptor in the laptop I get a dialog displaying the message:
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W adapter or higher for best system operation."
I have updated the bios, to A11 with no result. I know the power supply works as I tried it in another laptop and it is also used as a power source in my dell laptop, as I have started it only with the adapter plugged and no battery.
But my battery is not charging, is it any other update/software required to enable the battery to be charged? OR Is it Dell adpater only compatible with Dell batteries and Dell Laptops?
thanks

You need a Dell adapter. Universal adapters may power the system but will not complete the loop necessary to charge the battery.

thanks. In general, that is not a good thing...
All laptops I have been using allowed the use of other Power adapters with the required voltage.
Is it any way around this missing loop?

No - and there are plenty of other notebook manufacturers that use proprietary adapter loops as well. Apple does - so does Sony and at least on some models, Toshiba.
