Upgradin' the Inspiron 2500
I have Inspiron 2500 laptop. I plan to upgrade new HDD (I have 10GB IDE) and new memory (I think I probably have 256MB) as well getting new operating system software (Windows ME).
About 2 years ago, I remembered the Rj45 adapter wasn't working so I replaced the adapter and still NOT working. Then I remembered I once spoke with Dell customer tech support and told me that I need to replace the processor. Wasn't that right? How do I get it fixed?
My laptop currently have Pentium III 900 Mhz, L2 cache 256K (Dell part #2E865) and I wanted to know can I upgrade a better than P3 900 Mhz? If so, what type of processors should I look for.
Also, what maximum memory can Inspiron 2500 hold? 512MB or 1GB? I couldn't find the info on this one.

If you replaced the network card with no effect, then it's the port that's bad - meaning you'd need a new system board.

Cheaper option: install a PCMCIA Ethernet card ($30 or less).
The fastest CPU this system will take is the P3-1 GHz (Coppermine) - +100 MHz isn't worth doing.
RAM ceiling hard limit is 512M.

Sounds like the new system board is needed. I do have PCMCIA card and it worked fine. Thanks for the rest info.
