Upgrading RAM in Dell Inspiron 15R (N5010)
I am wondering how many slots there are for RAM in this laptop.
Where are they, and how many gigabytes of ram can each slot handle? Thanks.

I have inspiron 15 Intel (N5010). But it came with 3GB RAM (not with 4GB).
How many slots are there and how much can I upgrade ?
Can I upgrade by myself after purchasing online ?

Thanks for quick reply. And what should I notice / care about if I decide to buy online. I heard that I must use same mHz speed for both RAMS. Wouldnt more than 4GB work in 32bit UBUNTU 12.04 ?

There are two slots - you have one 2G and one 1G. You can upgrade to 8G total by replacing both of them with 4G modules.
Yes, you can upgrade the system yourself.
Note that to use more than 4G you must have a 64-bit operating system.

If you want RAM guaranteed to work, try www.crucial.com.
32-bit Ubuntu will use up to 4G of RAM. If you want to use more than that, as with Windows, you need the 64-bit version.

Hi Sidd.07,
Different speed/capacity RAMS can cause instability issues (blue screen, system performance issue etc.). I would recommend 2 same speed/capacity RAMS for a better performance.

I own the same N5010 laptop and I wish to upgrade from 6 GB to 8 GB. I heard that when you increase the RAM to maximum capacity there will be heat issues and could affect your computer. Is this true? Is it safe to upgrade to 8 GB RAM?
