Upgrading a Vostro 2510 to Windows 7
Hi,
I have a Dell Vostro 2510, which is currently running Windows XP. I'd like to upgrade the OS to Windows 7 Home Premium. Has anyone successfully done this? As far as I can tell, the Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor suggests that it should be possible, but I can't find any Windows 7 drivers for the Vostro, so I'm a bit nervous about the process.
Thanks.

You cannot upgrade from XP to 7 -- you must back up your data, and do a clean installation.
In most cases, Vista drivers will work fine with WIndows 7.

If you are using 32 bit Windows 7, the 32 bit Vista drivers should work fine for all the devices with the exception of bluetooth (it will crash explorer). In which case I recommend using R226750 the bluetooth driver for Windows 7 x86/x64 for the Bluetooth 370 card (works with the 355 and will probablywork with the 360).
If you are going for 64 bit Windows 7 it will require a bit more work as there are no Windows Vista 64 bit drivers listed for your system. In this case you will need to find Drivers from Dell XPS/Precision laptops with the same hardware. e.g. I have just found a set for the Vostro 1700 here.
As ejn69 says it is best to copy all your data to the likes of an external harddrive before proceeding. Insert the disc into the laptop, hold F12 while powering up, select boot from CD/DVD. Follow through with the install using the instructions here. When selecting where to install Windows, there should be drive options (advanced) select format. I then recommend installing standalone Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (if not included in your windows disc) and standalone IE9 before installing the drivers.

This is not currently supported, there are no drivers or downloads for Windows 7. Which means once you install it several things will not work properly or at all. It is best to stick with Vista.

It has now been announced that xp will no longer be supported after april, 2014. I am using xp on my vostro 2510. Are there still no plansby Dell to be able to migrate to windows 7 for this laptop?

Will Dell officially provide Windows 7 32 and 64 bit drivers for this system? Probably not as they aren't selling it anymore.
However Windows 7 32 bit will work fine on this system.
Install Windows 7 32 bit and use the 32 bit Windows Vista drivers with the exception of bluetooth, for bluetooth use R226750.
Follow my instructions A Clean Install of Windows 7 for best results, it will give you a full guide to installing Windows 7.

For WIndows 7 64 Bit you may try this driver set: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/microsoft_os/4702.vostro-2510-windows-7-64-bit.aspx
