User Manual for XPS-14z
Is there a user manual which explains how to use the laptop? Keyboard functions etc.>
The only manual I can find on this site is the "Owner" Manual which only explains how to pull the thing apart NOT how to use it.

Ken_Jungles,
Did you look at the Quick Start Guide?
Also try Manuals - Me and My Dell <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Thanks Rick. Yes I did find the user guide (2 pages) but it just tell you where the buttons are not what they do. While I am familiar with using a computer, this is the my first new one and I'm not familiar with the layout or functions. For example it took me an hour trying to find out how to open the CD Drive door before I discovered it didn't have one. Similarly I was expecting some basic instruction on how to eject a CD. The USer Guide also points out the "Battery Meter Button" but I don't know what it's supposed to do. Doesn't appear to do anything wjhen I press it. It also took me ages to figure out the Card Reader had a "dummy" card inserted in it. It looked like a "button" to me so I wasn't sure if I actually had a reader. I'm sure you get the idea. As I mentioned in my post, the only in "Me and My Dell is an "Owner Manual" which shows you how to take it apart but not the basic knowledge I'm lacking like what the icons on the Fn keys mean.

Ken_Jungles,
Start, all programs, Dell Support Center, Dell Support Center
Look there to see if you have the manual.
I was thinking there should be a folder there called Dell that might have the manual inside.

Found the folder but it's empty. I agree that would be the logical place to put it but I'm wondering if one actually exists. I'm guessing they've put the wrong manual up on their support site. Is there a way to check?

Thanks Jesse L but I've already been there by various routes at least 10 times. Have you looked at it? While it might be useful if I want to dismantle and reassemble my laptop, neither that or ANY of the links here provide ANY info on how to use it.What I'm looking for is a user manual that provides basic information such as how toturn it on and of,f how to use the optical and card drives andhow to use the function keys and controls like the battery meter button. I have spent many housr looking but can only find either the" technical manual" or the "Quick Start Guide" which is just a map of the of the controls with no assistance on how to use them.
Do Dell provide a manual like this or am I wasting my time?

Ken_Jungles,
Those are the only manuals that are available. The online manual and the quick start guide.

The answer to the OPs question is that unlike most systems, the XPS 14z does not have a user manual. Prior to buying mine, the most recent Dell systems I bought were and XPS 9100 desktop and before that a netbook. Both had online user manuals, but more recent systems (at least with the XPS 14z) they appear to have dispensed with that. You can't even find out the real specifications of your system.
