Video Module Form factor

I noticed that several of the Dell laptops use the ATI X300.  I wonder if this module is the same for all the laptops that use it.  If this is the case then following should also work:

X600 module from the Latitude should work in the I9300, the I6000 (enhanced graphics) and the XPS Gen2.

The 6800go module from the I9300 would work in the D810, the I6000 (enhanced graphics) and the XPS Gen2

I am not including the 6800Go Ultra module from the Gen2 in the other systems because I doubt they have the power or cooling to support it.

So DELL, will these fit?  I am only asking if it is mechanically and electrically possible.

Dells notebook video cards are proprietary for that system, and you can only use Dell's video card if they offer one in the future, not an off the shelf retail version, or from another notebook, unless Dell says it will fit, I believe.   This has been discussed, and I am sorry, but cannot find the link for it, and there was another article from another online site that talked about this as well.

Even if the card will physically fit the system, the BIOS has to support that video card. Chances are very good, that the BIOS on a 6000 will not support a D810 or 9300 card.

Neither of you are quite correct.

First SR45

I can remember back when Rance was Moderator and we had several discussions on what would fit and what would not.  Check back a few years ago you might be surprised.  What you say about the modules being custom is generally true, however, there is economy in scale and if they are MXM modules there is indeed a chance they might work.

What you say may very well be right but if these devices are MXM modules then there is a chance they are the same form factor and may contain their own bios.  It is also possible that they might work but may not fit in the case.  Anyway it would be nice if whoever is doing the moderation would reply.

And yes I do still have my I8100 that I upgraded to the GF4Go 64MB - my son still uses it.  For the last 2 years I have been using a Sony Vaio GRT170 w/a GF5600Go it was OK for awhile but now it is just too slow.  I hope to soon upgrade to a Gen2.

None of the modules are the standard form factor that ATI and nVidia have been pushing - the Dell cards are Dell-proprietary - they may or may not work from system to system (Dell's notebooks are made by four different manufacturers - Quanta, Compal, Wistron and Samsung) -- but they won't work in a non-Dell system, nor will a standard notebook card work in any of the Dell notebooks.

Like I said you are probably right but it would be nice to know.
