Video Trouble while playing Online game-- Please help!!
Hi, this is my first time for posting message in this board.
I am not an expert on computer, I am just average person who like to use my new notebook for playing my online game.
I am playing Everquest II which requires very top of the line for all specification. Recently I purchased new Dell Inspiron 9300 with 128MB video card. I believe it is the video card the game recommended (not just minimum requirement).
However, after I start to play game, noot all the time, but once an while, screen freezes and goes blank (actually not blank, all colors are mixed on screen) and it back to normal. but window warning shows the following message. It is error message from my ms window. it says "
VPU recover has reset your graphic acclerator as it was no longer responding to graphic drive commands"
and if it happens more than 3 times now there is warning "VPU
recover can not recover fully from hardware deadlock. You need to restart computer" or so.
I looked for ATI website, and it may solve the problem if I install Catalyst 4.7 higher, so I tried to install it but it couldn't recognize the video card from my notebook. So I looked again, and I found that I have to update driver thru Dell download center instead from ATI, so I did it. However the problem continued.
My Video card is :
ATI Mobility Radeon X300, 128 MB Memory, Internal DAC type.
ATI Mobility Radeon X300, 128 MB Memory, Internal DAC type.
I really appreciate if someone give me the idea how to solve this problem.
thank you

Seriously! I can't stand the lag with Video drivers. This has been going on FOR YEARS and years.... and it was understandable because the video card manufacturers actually refused to directly support their mobility cards. HOWEVER, ATI has realized that this is bad for business and is directly supporting mobility cards now.... https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293 .... but, now Dell WON'T GO ALONG WITH IT? Why? What's the excuse?
I've been a loyal Dell customer for 7 years... chances are my next laptop WILL NOT be a Dell. I can't stand their lack of support anymore.

Dells response so far, note i have updated drivers and have only experienced a few crashes since, certainly not as many as I was.
Install notes: Download and save the file to your desktop, then uninstall old ATI drivers, reboot PC and install from tool icon on desktop which you previously downloaded, reboot pc, away you go.
Email from dell as follows:
Hello Gregg,
Thank you for your reply.
I definitely understand your concern in this matter.
The maximum at dell technical support can address is to uninstall and reinstall the latest video drivers.
ATI Mobility Radeon X300http://ftp.us.dell.com/video/R106547.EXE
In order to view the contents of the above link please copy and paste it in your browser and press enter.
Please be advised Dell computer is tested, validated, and optimized for the operating system and hardware that shipped with your computer. If you have modified your system from its original configuration, you may experience conflicts that were not discovered in Dell's testing.
Please confirm that the game application you’re trying to use is compatible with the dell system. However, please get in touch with the game vendor as they would be in a better position to help you on the same.
I appreciate your understanding in this regard.
Thank you for your co-operation.

That's pitiful.
BTW, I installed the Omega Drivers from http://www.omegadrivers.net/ and everything seems great.
Dell continues to dissapoint. I hope the Alienware rumors are untrue... lest Dell screw up that franchise as well.
