Vostro 1400 memory upgrade options

Hello ,

I have Dell Vostro 1400 with 1 Gb of RAM . It seems like now it is time to add more memory , but Dell's documentation states that maximum amount of RAM , that Vostro supports , is 3.2 Gb. Does it mean that the only option is to upgrade to 2 Gb ? Why 3.2 Gb is the limit ?

Thanks

True enough about the board (using a 64bit OS), however, but if you are staying on a 32bit OS, it cant access more than 3GB of physical RAM no matter what you do.

Because of the older chipset in the system - you can install 4G but the chipset doesn't support memory remapping, so you'll see about 3.2 G useable of the 4G total, even with a 64-bit OS.

I have 2007 version of Vostro 1400 having following specifications.

Ram: 2GB,795 MHz

HDD: 250 GB

Processor : 1.4GHz TM5720 Core2Duo

OS: 32 bit XP Professional.

Query: Want to upgrade another 2GB. Will i waste 1Gb as 32 bit doesn't supports 4Gb?
