Vostro 3500 Fan Noise
Configuration: Vostro 3500, i520, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Win7 x64 - all drivers installed (support download site).
Problem: Even when only surfing the Web, the fan is permanently on and audible (I also have a M4300 with a T7700 CPU, where even under high load the fan was quieter than on this Vostro under minimal to no load). Anyone else also experiencing this?

Like mentioned in an earlier post, I had a fine Vostro 3500 until the motherboard died (after about a month). Dell replaced it and now it's noisy. They suggested to replace the fan and heard it didn't solve the problem. And now they suggest to replace the motherboard (again).
I tried different versions of the BIOS. And because I initially had a good motherboard, I don't think it is BIOS related. There must be a bad batch of motherboards with faulty temperature sensors. So if I'm lucky, they will replace it with a good motherboard, if I'm unlucky, it will be a faulty motherboard.
If it's a good one, I will check the BIOS version and let it know.

i can guarantee you, it is not going to fix that problem. problem is not related to hardware but bios software.
dell also changed my desktop's motherboard but unfortunately it didnt fix the problem.

Hehe, I was "lucky" and my laptop came with dead motherboard from factory. No comment...

Dell support came by to replace the fan (and heatsink etc)... It didn't solve the problem. They will return tomorrow with another motherboard. Let's hope it will solve the problem!

Why isn't this problem fixed yet dell? As large as a company you are is it not possible to spend just one day working this problem out? There are over 150 posts in this thread and yet not a single fix has been made to alleviate the problem for the majority. With all the profit you guys make I'm sure its not hard to do some testing on your products before you release them to the public. Get your game on dell and act on what people are saying.

I have the same problem with my Vostro 3700. A technican came and replaced the heat pipe. He said, this is a new problem that hasn't occurred to him yet. Anyway, it didn't help. I updated on BIOS A10 too. No change. I will give back the PC.

I think it would be more noticable if everyone started a new post, rather than piling on a single post.
Maybe with pages and pages of threads about laptop fans running too much and too noisily might be more effective in getting a reponse from them here.
