Try uninstalling dell's driver and use the synaptics one.
Helped for me though

Which version of Synaptic's driver fixed this issue for you?
My Vostro V130 received yesterday seems to have current version 15.1.12 of Synaptic's Driver, and the trackpad still freezes.

Driver Version: 15.1.22.2 07Nov10
Search for Synaptics_v15_1_22_2_C_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Marketing_SGS94_UI.exe (if you have a 64bit system)
Let me know if it helps.

All right, this Synaptics driver seems to work : no touchpad freeze since several hours!
Thanks a lot for help!

Just plug in the mouse to fix the drivers.

Managed to download the Synaptics driver.. It worked fine while I spent 4 hours Ioading my apps and data, then reverted to freeze.
Nothing will make it work not even using a mouse.
What a frustrating and futile experience.

I have the same problem with Synaptics Pad on Vostro V130 on Windows - but:
It is reproducable. Everytime I start a flash-movie in Firefox the Touchpad freezes.
Mousebuttons still work but the Cursor won't move anymore.
Tested 5 times. Same Flash-Movie in IE - no problem

Dell sent a tech to replace the hard drive after phone support gave up.
According to the tech, the OS was supressing the operation of the touchpad.
Sounds like fiction to me...but its faster and easier to throw a new HD at it than troubleshoot.
The new hd came with zero drivers...so much time was spent finding and loading the correct versions.
Anticipating (a) the problem again, I did not reload all my stuff.
I am using the machine occasionally only, while I look for an Asus 14" at the right price.
All in all, I would not have purchased this refurb. Its been a tiresome project - no mistake.

Hello Tymek,
My driver needed reinit by getting out and into the user.
It happened when I touched the pad simultoneousely with two fingers.
Your advise with Synaptics_v15_1_22_2_C_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Marketing_SGS94_UI.exe
Really helped, thank you.
Ilya.
