WebCam not listed under imaging devices in device manager

I would like to suggest few steps which might help us in fixing the issue. Please try the following steps:

1. Run the Dell PC Diagnostics for Webcam. This would check the functionality of the webcam.
2. The system comes installed with the Dell Webcam Central software suite. Uninstalling and re-installing of the software can be tried. Please follow the article to Uninstall and Re-install the Webcam Central Software.
   Once the Dell Webcam Central software is uninstalled, you may download and install the software from here.  

Please try the steps and write back with results.

On the camera I get an error message "please plugin a compatible camera"

Try re-installing your chipset drivers. Set Device Manager to show hidden devices.

You could also try uninstalling (inc drivers) your USB Root Hub devices and USB Composite Device from Device Manager and rebooting.

Please let me know if you have run the Dell PC Diagnostics on the webcam. If yes, what was the result. I would also like to know if you have tried the steps suggested by Paul. If not, please try the steps and let us know how it goes.

I have tried to run  the  Dell PC Diagnostics for Webcam. it takes forever to run with no results. All the chipsets that I try to install says they are not compatiuble with the computer even if I select the one for windows 7, 64 bit.

Please let me know if you have tried uninstalling and re-installing the Dell Webcam Central software. If not, please Uninstall and Re-install the Webcam Central Software. Once the Dell Webcam Central software is uninstalled, you may download and install the software from here.

I have the exact same problem @ the latitude st tablet.

What can I do? It's not listed @ usb or somewhere else in the device manager?

Is there a standalone driver wwhich I can install using the device manager itself?

I've tried it but windows doesn't suggest a webcam driver. 

Any ideas?

Here is one more possibility which worked for me on an Inspiron 14z, not a tablet. If after you've tried all above - this could be a hardware issue, a loose Webcam connection.

The Webcam at the top of the screen is prone to be loose with repeated closing and opening of the laptop screen.  The connector has become loose.  Press together both sides at the top middle of the screen (both sides of webcam) and the loose connection should reseat.  Watch for a notice on the lower right of your computer that New Driver being installed - or something like that. Then check your Webcam Software if it now sees the device. If not, take the next step and gently pop off the plastic around the outside of your computer screen. I used my finger nails to slide in the crack and gently but firmly worked my way around the top popping it off until I could see the connection to the webcam. Then I pressed the connection firmly and my webcam driver began reinstalling. Yes, I did this with my computer on. Maybe that's not good, but it's what I did.
