WebPC Monitor
My WebPC monitor just died on me. Its been getting weaker over the past two years. Its a CRT. My question is, can I upgrade to a flat screen monitor?

I upgraded to a flat screen monitor last year. I went for a DELL-E151FPp. Check out DELL online for some great deals. Prices seem to change daily.

No problems at all. In fact I have had this WEB-PC for almost 4 years and have had no problems. Seems I am one of the lucky few, huh?
This monitor comes with the disk and any drivers you might need, but my disk is still sealed. Good luck. You will really like the new monitor. Any questions just ask.

Thanks for the input. I'll place an order right away. I didn't necessarily want to buy a new computer since the unit itself is working relatively ok. But I figured if I had to go through great expense to make this new monitor situation work, I may as well go with a new computer.
Take care.

I have the 14" LCD made for the WebPC for sale at a lot less than a 15" will cost.

Some monitors have DVI cables. An example is the one made for the WebPC. I have looked for over 2 years for adapters to hook it to my Dimension. The gizmo to hook it up cost over $200. If the monitor says DVI it won't work on WebPC's. If anyone knows a cheap way to hook it up make my day and share the knowledge.

Odd, my WebPC has both DVI and a VGA inputs. I have only used the VGA port (no dough for a nice flat panel display). Is there some reason why the DVI connector would not work?
Of course I have one of the later manufactured WebPC's with the PIII 500, Xircom Ethernet/Modem Combo Card. So it could be possible that early models did not have the DVI connector. My DVI connector will probably never get used. If I ever get the dough for a nice LCD I sure as heck would connect it to my main desktop and not the WebPC.

What type of monitor was it? My WebPC (acquired used) came with a ViewSonic M70B 17" CRT (built Oct '99), that for all practical purposes, died yesterday. Symptoms progressed from jumping to a brief line/flash, to apparent lack of horizontal scan blanking to having the screen fold into a vertical line in the middle of the screen at some resolution/color depth settings, to a general lack of horizontal control. It smelled of solder/rosin while running prior to the failure. A quick examination in the area of what I would guess is the Horizontal Output Transistor showed at least one funny looking misshapen capacitor and the heat sink for this transistor? was still VERY hot. I found one web posting that described similar behavior/failure of another example of the same monitor, but haven't yet found a schematic.
Still works OK if it is just turned on for a few seconds, but is clearly not economically repairable unless I get it done for parts only.
