What is notebook system software?

Why does every laptop and operating system have something specific?

Does a notebook system software driver for vista work for windows 7? Will it harm the computer?

jzuckerman,

The Notebook Utility or notebook system software as you call it contains all kinds of drivers for that certain notebook. This needs to be installed first, then the chipset drivers.

If using Windows 7, download and install the Vista Notebook Utility and the chipset drivers. They will work on Windows 7 systems. Windows Updates, then might have a more recent drivers to correct it the rest of the way.
