What is the Max TDP for M1730 CPU Cooling System.
Does anyone know the Max TDP for the M1730 XPS CPU cooling system (heat pipe/fan combo)?
I know the T7000 series CPU's are rated at 35W TDP, but can the cooling system deal with a 45W TDP CPU?

Hi, i'm using Core 2 Extreme X7800 and thats rated at 44W, 2.6-3GHz fans run normal but overclocked to max 3.2GHz then fans on full speed, i normally run @3GHz then for gaming sessions where fan noise not a problem i go to 3.2GHz

Thanks for that.
I wish Dell would include a manual for their laptop mainboards with all the mainboard specifications.
I'm thinking of getting a base cooler to assist the heat-pipe/fan combo of the M1730, for my planned CPU, GPU and RAM upgrade.
I've only had this M1730 since April 6th, and have spent most of the time clicking every icon/link to find all the new and move-to-new-location old features.
I'm not that impressed with the performance of my M1730, in Vista Premium X32 or Ultimate X32, and with alll the visual features switch off.
Perhaps I'm expecting too much :smileysad:

well my biggest performance boost was getting an Extreme chip, guy on Ebay who has shop selling chips (Genius_heart) sells all versions of extreme i only paid £146 inc. delivery (came from taiwan in 2 days) at time of purchase i got my 1730 when it 1st came out extreme was £700 off dell so just got T7700 also using 64bit vista over 32bit i get much better performance.
And yes manuals and their XPS helpline are very lacking in knowing the product specs and what it can actually upgrade to.
your cards should give max performance under Aero so wondering if you got bad install affecting performance also under 32bit home which came with laptop i got around 8300 with 3dmark06 but under 64bit i now score 9600-9800

Aero works ok, it could be because I'm use to my Dell 620 WS, dual 1GHz Xeon, onboard SCSI 160bit HD interface, which seem to run faster (under XP Pro) than my M1730 under Vista X32.
I'm beginning to think the slowest parts of the M1730 are the memory and HDD.
One thing I would have liked to nail down is the erratic movement of the touch pad mouse. I have seen many posts about the mouse movement, but none as yet with a definitive cause or solution.

re: erratic touchpad - i cannot use them espeacially made bad when wearing platinum rings, its got somehting to do with personal levels of static 7 magnetic charge in the body.
Also SCSI 160 will always leave sata/sataII standing it's a server/power workstation class storage controller, although the HP P400 with writeback cache with 15k SAS drives on my ml370g5 server is ballistic espeacially in Raid 5/10 config.
Re memory like me you got 800MHz DDR2, but 1730 will only access that at 667MHz whch means dell for some reason have asyncronous over syncronous as when i spoke to them about why with 800MHz FSB on 1730 why it only accessed memory at slower speed as ideally you'd want syncronous as will always give best performance but i think i lost the guy on the helpdesk... so gave up
But if you upgrade yor CPU to Extreme then faster memory access as C2D chips use onboard controllers for memory my memory went from 4.8 (always slowest item) to 5.1 and has made a difference not so much games but video & image editing are now faster with effects

I didn’t know about the body static effects on touch pads. I was thinking it may be due to IRQ conflicts, and the order in which the systems drivers were loaded.
I have just cleaned up my Dell 620 for sale, and have several spares including a PSU, but I may just decide to keep it if I can get 5 new quiet replacement fans. I have 6 systems, one is a Linux box, but the time has come to consolidate and keep just 2 ...... maybe 3 systems. Another reason to sell is the lack of Vista drivers for the 620’s hardware components..... not a problem with XP Pro.
After a lot of research I bought the OCZ PC2-6400, to match my planned upgrade from the T7500 to X9000 Extreme CPU. I will be selling my T7500, Dell 4GB, and the original 2GB 667MHz SODIMM kits (all the above are less than 2 months old, I must be mad).
