What is the purpose of Intel AT?

When I got my Latitude E6520 it came with Intel AT.  I was told I had to purchase Lojack to use it as it showed as not enrolled and management engine showed unconfigured  Link status shows Link Down and the system information shows all as NA.  I purchased Lojack Premium, and then found out from Lojack that they no longer even utilize the intel ME.

I have tried researching it on intels website but find no info other than it saying that Dell supports it, but I cannot figure anything else out. Is there actually any way to set it up at all?

The only other service providers that I am familiar for Intel Anti Theft are Intel Anti Theft and PC Theft Defense Service.

PC Theft Defense Service

If you have lojack, frankly you may not need anything more.

I checked the traning docs and it mentions that the notebook does support Intel Anti Theft.  To my knowledge you will need a service to actually get any benefit of it.  You probably have seen this but if not, this is Intel's website on Anti Theft.

Here is a link that dicusses finding service providers

www.intel.com/.../anti-theft-service-providers.html

Lojack is listed, so I am not sure why you wasn't able to find help from them.

I understand that LoJack is listed, but I contacted them and they no longer use it on the new version as they no longer need to, they have a different way.  This came directly from them when I was trying to figure it out.  I know of no other software that is available, but I have LoJack anyway.  Computrace shows up in my BIOS as enabled though.

That is kind of what I figured, however the other software available seems to only be available if the computer is purchased from particular places such as Best Buy.  It has just been something I have been curious about as it seems that it has no use on my computer.

If Lojack told you that they don't use Intel Anti Theft, you are right, Intel AT really isn't doing much for you.  Just as long though as Lojack is protecting your notebook it amounts to the same thing.  Thank you for posting about this.
