What memory and cpu upgrades can I put in Inspiron 1720

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with Intel Core 2 Duo (T5250) processors and 1GB RAM. I would like to upgrade both. Can anyone tell me what upgrades will fit into my machine? I would like to use highest spec possible. Thanks.

The system will take up to 4G of DDR-2 667 (though you can install DDR2-800, it'll downclock, as the fastest RAM can run on this model is 667).

The fastest in the line of CPUs you can take is the T9500.

Thanks for that. Would T9500 give a significant improvement in performance, assuming I could get one, so far I have drawn a blank. Is there any CPU currently on the market the system will accept?

If you can find a used CPU somewhere that's inexpensive, it may be worth the upgrade --- you won't find any current CPUs you can use, though -- all the CPUs used in this model went out of production long ago.

The C2D T9500 is designed for Socket P (PGA478) with an Intel 4 series express family chipset. You'll need to check your chipset which can be done quickly by installing CPU-Z it free and is NOT ad supported. It will give you information about ALL your core components so you can effectively research compatibility. I question the compatibility of the T9500 with your system only because that processor operates on an 800Mghz system clock and you mentioned that yours is 667. Here's the link to CPU-Z

If you have further questions about compatibility I have a great post listed in my favorites links that discusses in detail and CHARTS compatibility of Legacy Intel Processors. Let me know if you need it.
