What the fastest/most RAM allowed on a D600?

I checked through the service manual and other documents on Dell's Support Site but I couldnt find one specifically on the motherboard.

So my question is what is the most amount of RAM can the D600 take (aka: Can it hold 2x 1GB Sticks with no problem)?

Also, the much more important question is what is the fastest memory the D600 can take? PC-2700? PC-3200? PC2-4200?

The maximum supported memory should be 2048MB. The memory is PC2100, if you use higher it will only work at the slower rate. The higher such as PC2700 will be backward compatible.

Just don't mix the PC2100/PC2700 modules.

I'm running D600 with 768MB (256MC PC2100 + 512MB PC2700).  They run smoothly, no problem whatsoever.  The important thing is that they should have the same CAS latency.

How can you determine the CAS latency on the Dell supplied modules?

Mine had been delivered with "H4287  DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 512, 333, 64X64, 8K, 200, 512"

I ran across this note:

"a few systems built by Dell and Gateway require a particular type of CL=2 memory known as 2-clock memory. While this memory technology is no longer used in modern systems, Crucial, Samsung and a few other manufacturers continue to offer this unique type of module for upgrade customers"

The crucial module that I added (and caused such annoying problems) was: crucial  p/n CT6464X265.16F 512MB, DDR, 266MHz, CL2.5
The one crucial recommends to use is:                                DDR PC2100 • CL=2.5 • ... • DDR266 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64                                              [$325.91]
when I asked them for PC2700, they said:                            DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • ... • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64                                              [$339.99]

Are those not all CAS Latency of 2.5?  Other research only showed choice of 2 or 3?

The new additional module  that I am now using is "DELL - 1 GB Module for a Dell Precision M60 (PC2700) System
                                                                                   1GB DDR SDRAM, PC2700, Dell Part# A0400907, Manufacturer Part # D1Y255"  (Samsung)    [$330.61]

For me, it was pure blind luck to find a solution to my BSOD's (50 in five months) and none since (five weeks) removing that first crucial module.

Dell's Technical (Email) support had insisted that I remove SP2 to solve my problem, no mention was ever made of CAS latency.

My assumption had been the mix of speed as the problem, and I still have no idea of CL speed installed now, just that BSOD's seem to be gone.
