Which notebook for me?

Hi, I go to college and I need a laptop. I would like something pretty light and thin but with some decent performance, not sure if i would play games on it because i have a desktop for that. I am looking at the 700m, 600m, 6000, and XPS 140. Out of those which would you choose. Thanks alot.

What do you need? A small, portable system (700m, 600m or the newer 630m), or a full blown desktop replacement (XPS-M140), or a mid-range system (6000)?

I say look at either the 700m or the XPS M140. Both of these are small, portable systems. The widescreen notebooks are usually preferred over the 4:3 screens, so the 600m might not be a great choice. Also, the 600m is on it's way out of the production line, so if you really like it, get it soon. The other two will be there for a while. Some say the 700m is too small. I think it's great, but I prefer the 14.1" widescreen of the M140. Personally, my choice would be the M140.

Stay away from 9300s

Just purchased a 9300 and had blue screen of death right off the bat. Never got it to boot ever!! Dell support was pretty much worthless, only checking hardware which all check ok. They decided to send us a six cd set to reinstall the system. After 45 minutes same thing! Called again and they insisted on going through hardware checks again, all ok. Then they transfer us to a software person who wants to charge us for support, remember system never loaded Win XP completely! Then support person has the nerve to say well you can't expect to just plug in a computer and have it work!!! I asked for her manager, Larance, who transfered us to Customer Care, Sunil, After being on hold for five minutes he said they would send a new computer and we should have it in under 15 days. A half hour later we got a call that said they were no longer manufacturing the 9300 and we could get a refund! Do you think I would buy a Dell again? I have purchased 4 desktops and a 700m from Dell but that will most likely be the end.

GOOD LUCK 9300 OWNERS!!!!!!

Um, I don't know who told you that they weren't making the 9300 anymore, but as far as I know, they still are. You need to call them back and if the tech does not seem competent, ask for a supervisor. Also, e-mail and/or chat tend to be good ways to get in touch with Dell, also.
