Why Is My Processor Running So Slowly?

I recently bought Halo and Half-Life 2 for my laptop. When both games detected my system specs they said that my processor speed was 1.59GHZ. My processor speed is supposed to be 3.06 GHZ and when I checked my system specs the processor speed was 3.06 GHZ then just after it 1.59GHZ. Does anyone know why I seem to have two processor speeds and why when I paid for a 3.06 GHZ processor it runs at 1.59GHZ? I read an earlier post and the poster seemed to think it was because we had speedstep processors and when the laptop was running off the battery it ran at a different speed. However I was running it off the mains so I don't think that is the cause. Thanks for any help

10-15FPS? Anyway when I read the read me file on omega they recommended that you didn't install the omega drivers for css. I have just downloaded the omega driver anyway. Is it really worth deleting the ATI drivers for this?

I'm not going to install the omega drivers. My hl2 and css are running pretty much fine now. I don't really see the pint with messing around the graphics card

You can reinstall it. But if they say not for CSS, then you should find out why.

Thanks for all your help. Just out of interest what is your css name? Mine's Pyromaniac1000. I use it for everything.

no. And Friends doesn't work. but if I'm on, but if it does, no problem. My official steam login though is JTF_Cobra, that one would probably work in Friends better than the others.

Yes, Friends only seems to work if the person you've typed in is actually playing or online at that specific time and you can't actually add them to your saved friends either. Is there any particular reason why the names you use begin with [JTF]?

Hi,
what is css that helped you resolve your problem.
I've got the same problem with my Pentium M 1,7Ghz which turns to 600Mhz under different games : sacred & SpellForce.
My laptop is usefull for the rest but for these games i'd throw it by the window.

Any help will be appreciate.

Hi, Unfortunately css stands for counter strike source the online shooter and is not a program to combat this problem. I still do not understand why the processor speed drops to such a low speed. I have e-mailed dell but they do not undderstand why the processor doesn't appear to be functioning properly either. My processor works fine on all my other games apart from Halo and Half-Life 2. If your laptop/pc is quite old (more than 6 months old) dust may have filled up your heat sinks and so your hard drive may be running at to high a temperature so when you play a good game, your pc temp might heat up too much, and your pc might not function properly. Other than that I don't know. Sorry.
