Wi-Fi connection problem Dell XPS 14" intel core i5

I have a XPS 14" with Core i5, 4GB RAM with Windows 8 preloaded

I am not able to connect to the Wi-Fi in my home. The laptop is just a few days old so I have not tested Wi-Fi connectivity in other places like Starbucks, etc.

I am 100% sure that my wireless (Cisco Linksys) is working normally since I have other devices and three other family members (kids and my wife) that connect no problem. We are not doing anything fancy with security or firewalls.

I can connect to my home Internet by using the ethernet cable (that is how I'm connected at the moment).

Ironically, I was able to connect to Wi-Fi for a short period of time (about 1-2 hours) a couple times only to see the Signal/connection just stop working. I am pretty good with computers and work professionally in software sales.

I have downloaded many updates from both Dell and Microsoft including product drivers. Ive run so many updates that I couldn't tell you all of them but (as is common with Windows products) I have spent many cycles (update / restart) updating hardware drivers, etc.

Please let me know how to troubleshoot this as all of the standard Windows & Dell help suggestions are not making a difference. (i.e. forget the network, disable and re-enable, unistall/reinstall driver, etc).

Thanks

glosd,

Did this system come with Windows 8 Pro or did you install Windows 8 Pro on 3/22/2014?

Try unplugging the ethernet cable then restart the computer. Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

Can you connect in the same room as the wireless router?

While in the same room, run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

What virus program and firewall are you using?

I installed Windows 8 Pro on 3/22. However, this problem with wi-fi connectivity existed even prior to the install of 8.

I restarted and connection is enabled. I do have have any additional firewall or virus software installed

I am in the same room and below is ipconfg log

glosd,

Download and install in this order. A restart may be needed between installations.

Intel HM77 Chipset Driver

Then make a system restore point.

Download Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 WiFi Driver and save the drivers to your desktop.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, Device manager, network adapters, right click on Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235, left click uninstall. Tell it to remove the software and drivers.

Restart your computer. When you login, the new hardware wizard will try to install the adapter but fail. Install the drivers saved to your desktop.

Download and install Dell Quickset Application

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

DO NOT UPDATE THE DRIVERS FOR THE Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235 ADAPTER.

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

I've tried all of these steps and my Dell laptop will still not connect to my home wireless. I am very frustrated.

here are facts:

I know that my home wireless is working cuz I have my other windows PC and my wife, daughter and son all can connect to the wifi.

I am fairly adept at computer stuff since I am in software sales for 20 years.

We have four computers, four phones, a printer and two remote devices (ipad and kindle) that CONNECT to our wifi.

I am ready to reset the computer but I don't want to do that cuz I have my work that installed Windows 8 Pro encryption and I dont want to lose a day giving up this laptop to IT

I'm still in need of help here....wireless is still not working - it will not connect - i'm getting basic 'unable to connect error message'

I actually tried calling Dell support tonight and got transferred 5 times after explaining my situation with three different reps. The last time I spent 51 minutes on hold before hanging up after the guy told me it would only take 1-2 minutes for him to review my case with the other tech support person before they would pick up.

If someone has any other suggestions Id appreciate it.

I'll figure it out eventually but this is the last time ill buy a Dell. I'm embarassed to even acknowledge they are a U.S. company. if you can't support your products when they don't work as they should why even stay in the business? let the foreign companies and apple do so
