Hi Bisawajit,

This could be an issue with the wireless drivers. I would recommend you to update the wireless drivers. Here’s how you can update the drivers.

  • Open the run window, press and hold the ‘Windows’ key and press ‘R’
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ without the parenthesis, click ‘Ok’
  • Expand ‘Network adaptors’
  • Check the name of the wireless card (example screenshot given below)

Now download the latest drivers from our support site.

  • Click on the www.support.dell.com
  • Click on ‘Find Drivers, BIOS and other updates’
  • Type the service tag of your computer, click on ‘Submit’
  • Click on ‘Network’ and download the driver as listed in device manager
  • Click on ‘Download File’
  • Check on the radio box ‘Single-file download’
  • Click on ‘Continue’
  • Click on ‘Save’
  • Choose the location as desktop, save the file on the desktop
  • Double click on the file; choose ‘Continue’
  • Click 'OK' on ‘Select the folder’ where you want to unzip the files (make a note of the folder location)
  • Click ‘Yes’
  • Click ‘Ok’, follow the on screen instructions and install the file
  • Restart the computer

In case you do not get prompts on the screen for instructions, then

  • Browse to the folder where the files were unzipped and locate the setup file
  • Double click on the file; follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation

If after installing the drivers, it does not work, then you will have to wait till Windows 8 compatible drivers are released.

Please reply if you have any questions.

How soon should we expect windows 8 compatible drivers to be released? Im not getting any wifi whatsoever, the only connection showing on my system is Ethernet. I have just updated from 7 to 8 on an Inspiron N5050. Im guessing its a driver issue but surely dell/intel must have a timeline for this release?

Hi Dangbat,

The support site is being been updated with the Windows 8 drivers. Here is the link: http://dell.to/Y5LLbX for N5050 drivers. Currenty, few drivers are listed for Windows 8. However, you can install the drivers shown for Windows 7 as they are compatible with Windows 8. You can check the Compatibility of the driver.

To check the compatibility, click on ‘Dell-Driver’, then click on ‘Compatibility’:

Please provide me the service tag of the computer so that I can check the system specifications and I can provide you with the direct link for the driver.

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Please reply if you have any questions.
