Win7 XP mode - cannot enable virtualization (Alienware M17x-R2 i7 620M)

hi,

I'm trying to use XP mode (Virtual PC software) in Windows 7 on my laptop. I'm getting error that my Alienware does not support virtualization :) and i need to enable it in the BIOS.

That's fine. But there is no option like this :) and as I know Intel i7 620M (to be honest all i7 family) processors are supporting Virtualization Technology (VT-x).

Anyone had the problem like this before? Maybe there is a BIOS update etc to fix it? I'm running v. A01 15.22

cheers,

Mac

there is no problem to use VMware player (latest vesrion - 7 will also allow to build a new Virtual Machine) but there is 'licence' problem of XP OS (of course if you are care of that).

Hi all,

I wanted to provide a quick update.  I have been able to get Sun's VirtualBox to run run on my M17x with no problems (I'm using the Win7 64 Ultimate OS).  I should note you'll need to completely uninstall Virtual PC and Windows XP mode first, as they appear remain resident in memory and make use of a feature required by VirtualBox.  The only rub is you'll not be able to allocate more than one processor core to the VM until we get a BIOS update - but this at least let's us get by.

Many Thanks,

Danny

I am in the same boat. Just got my M17x and prepared to install vmware, xp mode, etc... and ran into the same issue.

I have the A02 bios and you can't turn off the Intel Trusted Execution Technology in that version either.

Tech support's answer to the issue is wait for A03 which is not a good option.
