I would recommend you to update BIOS version on the system first and then update the Chipset Driver. Ensure the battery is more than 20% charged before initiating BIOS update.
Please click the link below which will take you to the driver’s website: http://dell.to/WvLNIi .
Enter the Service Tag of the computer and choose the Operating System installed on the computer. Please update the latest version of BIOS available.
Once the BIOS is updated, install the Finger Print Reader driver which may fix the issue.
I already updated BIOS (actually this was my first step). The problem is that there are no drivers for Latitude E6420 & Windows 8, so I'm wondering when Dell will release them.
Now only the Broadcom Biometric sensor missing. That I can install the driver, but I seems that it is not compatible with Windows 8, because I can start the enrollment process to get my fingerprints, I'm even able to scan my fingerprints but after I finish scanning it's just like it never learned them. It doesn't recognize them and still says "Not Enrolled" in the biometrics settings.
Philip, I think a little different here. I bought the laptop from Dell and it is Dell responsibility to work with their providers (Broadcom) to get a driver available for Dell customers.
BUT, I will also contact Broadcom... may this speedy up things.
I have the E6420, but without the fingerprint driver.
I found some missing drivers of the E6420 on the E6430 web page, like theses one :
- ControlVault
- Dell Data Protection (3-in-1 package including Access, Drivers and Middleware - May include the fingerprint driver?)
- Free fall sensor
On the E6420 web page, I took :
- Intel Drivers - Video
- Indel Drivers - WiFi
- Intel Drivers - Lan
On the nVidia web page, I took
- Nvidia drivers for 420m video card
then I used the Windows 7 drivers for everything else and all seems OK.
Some problems :
- A newer Feature Pack is available on the E6430/E6420 web page, but can't download it (2.2.1). Older version (2.2.0) works, but is not 100% perfect in the battery apps and when we change the brightness, the Dell AND W8 logo show up... supposed to be fixed in 2.2.1
Also waiting for DW5550 drivers, the last ones didn't even work properly in Win7 and now in Win8 DW5550 device disappears every now and then only to reappear after a while, and then disappears again, etc.
Also Wifi has similar issues, suddenly disconnects and looses all hotspots only to suddenly again start to work again. It also reflects to Win8 Networks Charm which doesn't even open when there are network issues. Probably buggy code in it too, but guessing it is mainly caused by non-Win8 drivers.
Also Intel GFX drivers have still issues, sometimes it appears as if all fonts are kind of bold, and then they suddenly jerk back to normal. It was worse in Win8 Preview with beta Intel drivers, but still not fixed.

Mass Storage Device will be the O2Micro OZ600XXX Memory Card. Installation of the Windows 7 driver should fix that problem:

Great!
Mass Storage Controller solved with the driver you recommended!
Unknown Device was the Free Fall Sensor that I solved with this: www.dell.com/.../latitude-e6420
