Windows Mobility Center Keeps Popping Up!! ANNOYED!

So I previously had a problem with my computer and had to send it into dell to be fixed... however when it was returned windows mobility center kept popping up. If i shift the wrong way there it is... the slightest movements seem to cause it to come up. Its pretty annoying because it prevents me from typing and I am frequently accidentally turning off my wifi because of it. Since having this problem I've gotten my keyboard and touchpad replaced... these served as temporary solutions because a couple of hours later the problem resurfaced. Is there anyway to disable this? I've tried the registry hacks and although it prevents WMC from popping up it it begins to type X's instead! I'm really irritated and for months I've been trying to find a solution to this problem.

BTW I have an Inspiron N5110 if that helps.

 Hi ksarge1,

There are 2 different ways to disable windows mobility center on the computer.

Below mentioned steps would disable windows mobility center.

Step 1: Using the Group Policy Editor

  1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc and press ENTER
  2. Expand User Configuration: User Configuration->Administrative Templates-> Windows Components->Windows Mobility Center
  3. In the right pane, right click on Turn off Windows Mobility Center and click on.
  4. Close the Local Group Policy Editor window.

If you do not have gpedit.msc in your computer, then you may follow the below mentioned steps to disable it through registry editor:

Step 2: Using the Registry Editor

Important: The below mentioned method contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/

  1. Click Start, type regedit.exe in Start search and press ENTER
  2.  Navigate to the following key:
  3.  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\MobilityCenter
  4.  Right click the "MobilityCenter" key to create a new DWORD (32-bit) value
  5.  Name the value as "NoMobilityCenter
  6.  Double click the new value to set the value to 1
  7.  Restart the computer and check.

Let me know if this helped.

Hi ksarge1,

I have provided a link below which has a video to disable windows mobility center:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZt0V1SdTKo

It is a third party website the website could have its own terms and conditions and there could not be any guarantee. Also, I recommend backing up registry and then trying disabling windows mobility center.

To back up registry follow below steps:

Log in as administrator to perform these steps. If you are not logged in as an administrator, you can only change settings that apply to your user account.

Before you make changes to a registry key or sub key, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy of, the key or sub key. You can save the backup copy to a location you specify, such as a folder on your hard disk or a removable storage device. If you make changes that you want to undo, you can import the backup copy.

  1. Open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button , typing regedit into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.‌  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Locate and click the key or sub key that you want to back up.
  3. Click the File menu, and then click Export.
  4. In the Save in box, select the location where you want to save the backup copy, and then type a name for the backup file in the File name box.
  5. Click Save.

Please let me know if you have any other queries.
