Windows has stopped the display adapter (Code 43)

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 laptop that I bought a few months ago.

When I bought the laptop I immediately updated the OS to Windows 8.1.

As soon as I started using the machine (with Windows 8.1 installed) I discovered that the drivers were all messed up. For example, the laptop would not hibernate. Whenever I put it to sleep it would shut down. This problem was resolved when I changed the video drivers with other ones that I downloaded from the Dell website.

Today a new problem appeared with the display adapter. The machine was in sleep, and when I awakened it it showed an error message and shut down. When I turned it on, the display adapter was not functioning correctly, and this message appeared in the device manager:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I uninstalled the drivers of the display adapters. I downloaded (again) the video drivers from the Dell website. There are three video drivers in the website that are listed for my machine:

Intel HD Graphics 4400 Driver

AMD Radeon HD 8670M Driver

AMD Radeon HD 8850M / 8870M Driver

I installed the first one, and this did not seem to restore the complete function of the display adapter (for example, I was still unable to change screen resolution). I tried to install the second and third drivers, but in both cases an error message appeared telling me that my machine lacked a driver so the installation could not be completed.

I again uninstalled all the drivers of the display adapters. I then installed the AMD Radeon HD drivers, and the installation was successful, but I was still unable to change screen resolution. When I tried to install the Intel HD Graphics 4400 Driver the following error message appeared:

This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.

I tried uninstalling all the drivers for the third time, but I am still unable to install the Intel HD Graphics 4400 Driver (which I did install successfully earlier today).

What should I do to resolve this issue? I want to be able again to change screen resolution.

You don't install all the drivers listed for your model since you will have a diff configuration. The 2 amd drivers did not work since they are for 2 diff video cards and you do not need either of them since most computers come with just the 4400. The device manager will tell you which display you have. That is the only one that should be reinstalled. The last driver you installed is the one you have now and that is wrong. See if there is a if there is a 4400 driver for 8.1 available.

You might be able to use the device manager to update the driver. Open Display Adapters, right click on it and Update Driver.

The problem now is that I can't install any Intel driver because I keep getting the message:

This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.

I uninstalled the AMD driver completely, and I downloaded the latest Intel driver, but still I am getting the same message when I try to install it.

Actually my graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 8850M. I have installed the driver for this device, but it is still not working right.
