I've been having touchscreen issues, issues shutting down (the system starts to shut down and the fan spins up, and the shutdown sequence never completes), the memory speed is incorrect (take a look at the memory tab in task manager: mine is running at 1333Mhz instead of the advertised 1600Mhz) which I hope is an error in the most recent BIOS, and there have been various other issues which I think are mostly caused by poor drivers. I had issues with the Intel Bluetooth driver, and the driver package Dell has up on their site failed to reinstall (I had to download direct from Intel to actually get Bluetooth back up and running correctly) It feels a bit like Dell rushed the XPS12 out without fully testing the drivers. They're just not there yet. For a premium, flagship machine it's enormously disappointing. You might even call it outrageous.
I truly believe that the XPS 12 is the best convertible Windows 8 hardware available. That's why I bought it. But the software and driver situation is completely unacceptable. Dell should be ashamed.
I have most of the problems mentioned in this thread.
The auto screen brightness feature is terrible (very slow to respond to changes in ambient light level, sometimes changes randomly).
The trackpad has numerous issues (there is another thread about this).
Sometimes the machine hangs while going into sleep or hibernate mode. Once when this happened, it became extremely hot and the fan did not come on. I'm glad I noticed before it fried itself.
The WiFi keeps dropping and I have to use the networking troubleshooter to revive it.
It frequently emits a very high pitched noise which is painful for my ears. The sound comes from near the USB ports.
In less than four weeks I've had at least 3 full Windows crashes (not counting the hanging during suspend), which is a lot more than I got for any Windows 7 machine - however I can't be sure this can be blamed on Dell; it could well be Windows 8 itself.
I have the Core i7 with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD.
The high pitch noise is a deal breaker for me. I think I have to return it.
Are you guys all running the latest BIOS? I just got my XPS 12 on December 28th and have not had many of the problems described here. My XPS is running BIOS A05 and as of now that is the latest.
I do however have the high pitched noise coming from the system.
My system also came with a bad right speaker, and a dead pixel in the display.
The touchpad drivers need major improvement, you can't even use the touchpad and the keyboard at the same time!
Heat wise my XPS doesn't get hot at all. I'm running the $1199 config and the only upgrade was Windows 8 Pro.
Sorry to hear about all these issues you had with the xps 12. I have had mine for about 1 week now and will count myself lucky because other than the annoying trackpad, the only issue I have experienced so far is the flaky WiFi signal issue. I completely believe that this issue will be solved with driver and software updates. Windows 8 is just too new to not have a few issues.
I have also been using the Dell XPS 12 for about 2-weeks now. The biggest gripe I have is the that the darn wi-fi adapter is so bad and unreliable. Sometimes it connects, but most of the time it's "limited" or no connection at all. I need to use this laptop for work and travel frequently, so this is quite unacceptable. I can't have an unreliable wi-fi connection. I have spent over 15-hours troubleshooting this specific issue now, with Dell Technical Support and my work IT team, and a friend working as an IT Professional. Still unresolved....!
I've been using Dell PC/Laptop forever, so I really hope they resolve this issue ASAP! I just upgraded from an Alienware m11x, and before that, had an XPS M1210; BOTH were awesome...! (until now)
I also started to experience the same types of issues with my wifi connection. I went to Intel's support site and ran their drivers scanner and found an updated wifi driver. Downloaded it last night and my connection has been 100% better. Give it a try: www.intel.com/.../detect
I tried the Intel scanned and updated the driver to version 15.5.6.48, but unfortunately it didn't make a difference for my situation. My XPS 12 is still not connecting to my home wi-fi. I'm using a different PC right now, which is on wi-fi to type this post.
I can agree with you in all Points besides the last one. But I have another issue with the power button. The XPS turns often on when it is placed in my bag because the button is very "loose".

Have had my 12 for about 10 days and I'm experiencing the same problems you are except for the fan and heat issues.
In addition, the trackpad is fairly useless for most everything.
For the $1699 I paid, I expected way better.
I too will be contacting Dell either for a replacement machine of a full refund.

I've returned my XPS12, but yes I was running the latest (at the time, A04 I think).
The high pitched noise was a deal breaker for me. And the performance of the touchpad was really unacceptable.

Worst trackpad in 20 years of using trackpads. I cannot successfully click and drag an icon on the desktop. Can't do it, period.
Mouse works fine
Inexcusable.

Time to ask Dell to replace it with a new one.

It's on the driver page for the xps 12. Make sure you click, "all drivers"
Here is the link: www.dell.com/.../xps-12-l221x

Hi balong48, where did you find A05 BIOS update, or did it come with that version loaded? I can't find it on the driver update page.

Hi there,
