Is there a way of permanently uninstalling/ disabling this or a way of preventing it from automatically coming back?
here is something you could try: open Task Manager (right-click start menu), open the Start-Up tab, right click on Waves MaxxAudio Service Application and select to disable.
the laptop now no longer responds to plugging headphones in
static noise is now almost constant
If you haven't seen it yet, take a look at the Recent Issues FAQ. I don't know the exact model you have, so in the FAQ look at XPS 9343 and 9350, which are both XPS 13's.
P.S., in this forum there is no indication to whom a reply is made, which is a problem when there are multiple participants in a thread. I solve it by clicking "Use rich formatting", then use the Quote button to quote a snippet of something from the person to whom I am replying. The forum software will then insert that person's name.
thanks for your help. I tried this but the computer says that i have already the most current driver. I searched online for the driver and found it on the dell web-sight, after updating like this the audi quality issue was fixed (but nothing else) as described in my original post. (until maxxaudio returned from the dead)
Thanks! Since reinstalling the drivers manually once again (after finding them online) the waves maxxaudi doesnt appear there for me, neither does it pop up on inserting headphones again. If it does once again reappear ill try it.
Ive run the test as you asked and the first time it said 'one ore more problems detected', but did not provide any error codes that i could see (may have missed it), i ran the tests several more times including the longer one and each returned a clean result after this first one. weird.
AS far as the issues go the laptop now no longer responds to plugging headphones in (still plays audio from the speakers when they are properly inserted) and the slight static noise is now almost constant, even when the speakers are not in use.
i will nnow send a private message with the details you asked for.
I have the same problem with the touchpad, sometime it just stops working until I restart it. Not to mention that it is spectacularly imprecise, especially with the 2-finger scrolling . If I plug-in a mouse, then no problem. So i have to carry a mouse with me all the time. Tried many things, changing and updating drivers, nothing worked so far. (On the other hand, this is the second day already without the static noise, so I am moderately happy)
Id also like to mention now that the mouse/ trackpad works only intermittently, often detecting the worng in put (zooming in/out in stead of moving) and sometime being totally unresponsive. not sure if this is indicative of anything?
So the issues seem to be compounding now........ i now esperience a constant squeeking noise when using the headphones (reinstalling the driver doesnt help) and an almost constant noise when using the speakers.
any chance if a resolution here? for the sake of how much money ive spent im annoyed that this happened in the first place and more that it still isnt fixed.

Not to highjack the thread but I was experiencing issues like you describe on my brand new 9360 and I adjusted the "change the cursor speed" (after phoning tech support and testing several things to determine that it was software related and I must say I'm impressed) and line "chose how many lines to scroll" in settings as well as made my pointer black to better keep track of the pointer. These adjustments so far are working for me on an otherwise excellent machine to me. I'm used to the touch pad on a MacBook Pro (late 2013) and the 9360 is not bad for a Windows machine, actually pretty dog gone good!

... I adjusted the "change the cursor speed" ......and line "chose how many lines to scroll" in settings as well as made my pointer black to better keep track of the pointer....
So how did you adjust them, to which setting?
Anyway, back to static noise - since I installed this driver, the noise stopped.

This is what did a job for me - I updated "manually" sound controller driver and the static noise is gone.
